![]() The Track Draw feature lets you trace your planned route and view elevation changes, helping you estimate the difficulty of a hike or bike ride. You can view maps, plan routes, and mark waypoints and tracks from your computer - then transfer them to your device. It was tedious, but it also made me think of how all the tour books on the BRP and Skyline Drive could be brought into the 21st century by including LAT/LON instead of just mileposts.Use BaseCamp software to plan your next hiking, biking, motorcycling, driving or off-roading trip. Not having BaseCamp at the time, I used google maps LAT/LON to ensure that I was looking at real "outlooks", rest areas, visitor centers, and attractions (like Mabry's Mill). That's becuase I drove the BRP in mid-October, South to North, and my name is Jim. JimĪ quick read of your post startled and amused me for a moment. Long way of saying it works for autos, at least for creating complex routes. Lots of waypoints helped but it was still a struggle. No combination of preferences made much difference. Mapsource worked extremely poorly for this as did Streets and Trips. I wanted to be sure I stayed on it so I created several routes, one per day, for this purpose. I drove the Blue Ridge Parkway, south to north, in mid-October. I find that software geeks in general require close supervision or these kind of things happen. Why the interface has to be different than any other program is probably an answer like why Garmin software has to get rid of nice features of old nuvis when they create new models. My experience is that if you stick with it you can make it work for you and in the end you may find it works rather well. My waypoints were not anything I needed to put phone numbers in for so I don't know about that, they were just points out in the middle of nowhere in the middle of a portion of the route where BaseCamp wanted to use a different road. Once I got used to the interface, I did not have any big problems and will use it again when the need arises. I upgraded maps in the 885t and didn't notice that one of the routes quit working, however, which made it a good thing I had the 765t along as a backup. I got frustrated and quit a couple times but in the end I had routes in both my 885t and 765t. Routes were always created with the "create a route between these waypoints" command. I am no expert but I just kept switching the "tool" from waypoint creator to whatever else I need, gradually adding waypoints where BaseCamp wanted to go off the parkway until I got a route that worked. ![]() The interface is different than any of these other programs and that is not welcome. Google Maps would work but the GPX converter did not work very well on this admittedly somewhat complex route. I had a thread on GPS Passion where a couple of the moderators were helping. ![]() ![]()
